Harry Potter style icon

So we’ve all just decided that Harry Potter is a terrible dresser?

Harry Potter? The boy who:

  • Was so strict about his hair that it was actually impossible for Petunia to give him a bad haircut?
  • As soon as he got some money wanted to buy a solid gold cauldron?
  • Made multiple observations about how weird magical fashion was and assessed the outfit of every single person he met?
  • Spent nearly an entire chapter moaning about how terrible formal robes are and hating on magical fashion?
  • Finally found acceptance and love in the magical world and yet refused refused REFUSED to give up his Muggle aesthetic?
  • Made an exception for Weasley jumpers because he values artisanal craftwork and they fit with the aforementioned aes?
  • Was the heir to the Sleak-Eazy beauty company?
  • Was so heavily into vintage eyewear?
  • Made friends with artists (Dean) and independent designers (Luna) at school?

Oh no. The lad was bi, fly, ready to die and probably now owns 200+ pairs of designer trainers.

Honestly, that gold cauldron should have been our first clue. Boy’s got some fine taste.

into the spider-verse has some of the most dynamic, fluid, colorful, beautiful, and expressive animation i’ve seen in years

dreamworks and disney and etc etc have all been fighting each other to see who can animate the most eyelashes and make fabric swish right in the wind

animation has just become a contest to see who can mimic real life (which kind of defeats the purpose lol)

FINALLY an animated film that celebrates its medium!! animation was meant to push the boundaries and express ideas and add visuals real life couldn’t! thank you!!

I had to draw a @heartstoppercomic fanart because this is, like, my favorite webcomic? It is a very moving, heartwarming story with great characters, great lgbtq+ and poc representation. I love everything about it. And I cried while I read some chapters because I’m weak and the feelings are stronk. Please read Heartstopper.

Persephone Books is actually magical.

my initial impression of the main point of parallel between tolkien’s and vergil’s plots was in the fact that the hobbit, which maps onto the odyssey, precedes the lord of the rings, which, by a greater stretch maps onto the iliad, the same reversal of homer’s order that is a pretty basic and widely-accepted analysis of the aeneid. but i now think that a much better understanding of the parallels takes the two psychological journeys that happen in sequence in the aeneid as happening concurrently in the lord of the rings (removing the hobbit from the picture - these analyses aren’t mutually exclusive of course, because just as vergil adapts homer in non-mirroring ways, so too does tolkien re-weave his own influences).

the first half of the aeneid, where aeneas must realize that troy is gone, the past can’t be relived, and fulfilling his destiny (whether or not it’s genuine) requires him to sacrifice his own happiness parallels frodo’s journey - they both have wanderings, and frodo has to come to terms with very similar things (”all we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us” vs aeneas’ ‘if i had my way i would still be back in troy’ bit as he leaves dido?? lordy). yes, frodo gets to go back to the shire but “the shire has been saved - but not for me” and he ends up leaving as the shire that he constructed for himself is gone.

in the second half of the aeneid, aeneas’ character parallels aragorn. they both have a fate that they’re bound to and at this point have accepted, to become the king of a (somewhat foreign) land that, from within the text at least, they nevertheless have a birthright to. although it’s a secondary purpose for aragorn, they both engage in battle over it, and aeneas’ shield can even be mapped onto aragorn’s sword. the battle at the end of the aeneid reminds me a bit of pelennor. i can go into why i think the outcomes for aeneas’ and aragorn’s character journeys are so different, but because i think that highlights the crux of what differentiates the two stories, i’m going to save it for another post. they don’t end up in the same place, but they start from it.

anyway you should cherish ur weird friends

treasure that friend who’ll yell nonsense sounds at you until you’re both gibbering back and forth like ancient humanity at the tower of babel. love the friend u can make eye contact with before saying some absolute jackshit inside joke you share at the same time and collapsing in entirely unnecessary fits of laughter. acknowledge how lucky you are to have someone you can text at 3am in the morning when you’re on a tangent of a tangent on your bullshit and NEED to blabber incoherently about it to someone or you’ll explode. don’t take for granted the people you know you can talk to about literally anything without fear of judgement or disinterest. because people like that? they’re few and far between.

apricitic:

a note on people who always say “i don’t mind” whenever you ask where they want to eat/what they want to watch/etc:

usually this is because they’ve been punished in the past for voicing their opinions, not because they’re out to annoy you specifically. depending on how much flack they used to receive, it can be very stressful for them if you try and force them to offer up an idea.

a lot of my friends who do this appreciate me giving out like… three options. pick three different things that you will be happy to do any of and ask which of those three options they’d prefer. it removes the fear of “what if they don’t like my suggestion” without erasing their option to chose and have preferences so, you know, good all around

“Our short-term goals are to get folks home for the holidays”

• There are more African American men incarcerated in the U.S. than the total prison populations in India, Argentina, Canada, Lebanon, Japan, Germany, Finland, Israel and England, combined.

• Ziegler, a PhD recipient now based in Oakland, explains that a July tweet proposing the app idea gained traction, inspiring him to pursue the concept in a real way.

• While Appolition.us is another towering extension of Ziegler’s contributions towards aiding marginalized people, he knows it’s a small step towards bringing light and hope to the trying effects mass incarceration presents.

not to sound 14 again but sam/frodo and gimli/legolas are the only valid lotr ships bc they would piss tolkien off so fucking much

jolkien rolkien rolkien tolkien, sobbing: but dont you care about their epic friendships

me (wise): theyre gay sir. you wrote them gay

the people tagging this with aragorn/boromir are the most valid people alive and in the secret ending to lotr which i just created they both survive and get married and retire from public life to farm goats and eowyn marries arwen while faramir rules gondor
